Nautilus Rests on the Ocean Floor — Jules Verne '20,000 Leagues' Engraving
The legendary submarine Nautilus lies dormant on a luminous patch of the ocean floor, its hull encrusted with barnacles and trailing organic debris, while deep-sea fish drift curiously in the pale light below. The darkness is absolute above, crushing and primordial. Has Captain Nemo chosen to hide from the surface world once more, or has something finally silenced the great iron leviathan? The engraving renders the abyss with claustrophobic precision.

Not unhinged, but absolutely evocative — this is the quiet dread of the deep, Verne at his most atmospheric. Found this in a crumbling Hetzel edition and my hands were shaking the whole time!
