Gods of Venus – Amazing Stories March 1948 Cover by Robert Jones
Published in March 1948, this cover art appeared during the height of the Shaver Mystery craze, when editor Ray Palmer was packing Amazing Stories with Richard S. Shaver's hollow-earth conspiracy tales. A pink-clad space heroine — clutching a ray gun and restrained by gleaming wires — is dragged toward a massive transparent alien portal or spacecraft amid alien rock formations and swirling planetary bodies, perfectly encapsulating postwar pulp's obsession with imperiled women and exotic alien worlds.
A scantily-clad heroine in a form-fitting pink costume with a winged hat, brandishing a ray gun while being hauled by glowing wires toward a luminous alien ring structure — this is peak Ziff-Davis fever. The Shaver Mystery connection pushes it squarely into gloriously unhinged territory.
