Toka Fights the Big Cats – Fantastic Adventures, December 1947
A bronze-skinned warrior plunges a knife into a massive, blood-soaked saber-toothed tiger in a stone arena pit — pure pulp fury at its finest. The beast rears up, jaws agape and claws slashing, while a terrified blonde woman in red cowers behind the hero. The setting suggests a lost-world gladiatorial encounter, with lush trees visible beyond the ancient walls. Blood spatters liberally across both man and beast in this visceral, kinetic composition.
A near-perfect specimen of late-40s pulp mayhem — the saber-tooth is genuinely menacing, the blood is gratuitous, and the damsel is appropriately imperiled. This cover does everything right and absolutely nothing tasteful.
