Red Robot Menace in Suicide Swamp – Fantastic Adventures, July 1952
A menacing crimson robot with bulbous oval eyes and pincer claws looms from the murk of a fog-choked swamp as a desperate man raises a makeshift weapon to fend it off. Clutching him from behind, a wide-eyed blonde woman in a torn blue dress recoils in terror. The oppressive bayou setting — gnarled trees, creeping shadows — makes the mechanical intruder feel utterly wrong, a factory nightmare invading a primal wilderness. Something catastrophic is seconds away.
A ROBOT in a SWAMP threatening a screaming blonde — this is pure Ziff-Davis gold! The crimson mechanical monster surrounded by Spanish moss is exactly the kind of gloriously illogical threat that made 1950s pulp covers impossible to leave on the newsstand.
