Weird Tales April 1923 — Man Blasted by Demon Eyes, 'The Whispering Thing'

In a darkened room, a man in formal black dress recoils in pure terror, arms flung wide, as two glowing red demonic eyes bore into him from the darkness — twin beams of supernatural energy striking his chest. The spectral rays illuminate the victim's agonized face and splayed fingers in sickly violet light. This is the cover of Weird Tales Volume 1, Number 2 (April 1923), one of the earliest and most historically significant issues of the legendary horror and fantasy pulp magazine.
