En L'An 2000: Underwater Fish Race in the Pacific, French Futurist Card

A French viewer in 1899 would have laughed with delighted bewilderment at this audacious vision of aquatic sport: helmeted spectators in diving suits cheer wildly as jockeys astride enormous flying fish and a serpentine sea creature race across the open Pacific. Flags mark the course, crowds line the watery grandstands, and the whole absurd spectacle pulses with the Belle Époque confidence that tomorrow's leisure would be as spectacular as its technology. It is Jules Verne made playful, retrofuturism at its most charmingly unhinged.

This belongs squarely on a dorm room wall — it is gleefully absurd, bursting with invention, and utterly sincere in its lunacy. The image straddles fine collectible print and pure pulp fever-dream, earning its place as one of the most beloved artifacts of Victorian retrofuturism.
