Jack Vance Magnus Ridolph Alien Warrior — Galaxie/Bis Cover 1975

Alien world survival technology on display: a gaunt, insectoid extraterrestrial warrior brandishes a long ceremonial or combat spear-staff against a desolate, rocky alien landscape under a sickly green-yellow sky. The creature's skeletal, chitinous body and elaborate headdress of dark feathers suggest a warlike primitive culture encountered by Magnus Ridolph, Jack Vance's interstellar troubleshooter. Craggy spires and a distant pale sun reinforce the alien-world atmosphere with masterful moody color work.

That bug-thing with the spear looks like it wants to eat Magnus Ridolph for breakfast — those hollow eyes and creepy skeleton arms gave me chills just looking at it! I'd absolutely buy this off the newsstand rack just to find out what happens when you meet one of those things up close.
